GENERAL JIM MYLES

An American Hero With Viking Roots

When Jim Myles was a student at Holy Rosary Academy in the 1960s, he was an industrious and fun-loving kid known as Jimmy. Today, he is Retired Major General Jim Myles, a decorated U.S. Army Veteran and American hero.

Gen. Myles served more than 36 years in the U.S. Army, retiring at the rank of Major General. His final assignment was the Commanding General of the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command and Redstone Arsenal, AL. In his career, he served in key command and staff positions throughout the Army, to include Commanding General, U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command; Assistant Division Commander (Maneuver), 1st Cavalry Division; Commander, 17th Aviation Brigade; service on the Joint Staff; and key leadership positions in the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment.

From 2011–2015, Gen. Myles held senior leadership positions at DynCorp International, culminating as Senior Vice President with P&L responsibility for its annual $1.3B aviation portfolio. As President of Myles Associates, LLC, he provides strategic insights, guidance, and assistance to key clients supporting U.S. national security interests.

While he has a made a large impact on our nation and our world, Gen. Myles and his family are firmly rooted in the Nashville Catholic community. He graduated from Father Ryan High School in 1970. His wife of 44 years, Alice Myers Myles, graduated from St. Bernard Academy in 1970. They have one son, Jim, and two grandchildren, Grace and James.

It was at Holy Rosary Academy that Gen. Myles first started finding his way, and what a journey it’s been for him.
